Google has introduced a new option for businesses to showcase their social media presence in their Google Business Profile. This feature allows businesses to add social media profile links directly, providing customers with more ways to connect, acquire information, and resolve issues.
New Feature Rollout
A comprehensive support page by Google explains that businesses now have control over which social media links are displayed on their Google Business Profile. Currently, businesses can add one link per social media platform from a range including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
This new feature is being gradually rolled out and is available in specific regions at the moment.
How To Use the New Feature
Adding a social media link to a Google Business Profile is a straightforward process. Businesses need to access their profile, click on ‘Edit Profile,’ then navigate to ‘Business Information’ and finally ‘Contact.’ Under ‘Social Profiles,’ businesses can select the social media platform they wish to link and enter the web address. Editing or removing the link follows a similar process.
To edit a link, all businesses need to do is update the web address field for the designated social media link. To remove a link, they can simply click on the ‘Trash’ icon next to the social media profile that needs to be deleted.
In some cases, Google may automatically add social media links to eligible Business Profiles. However, business owners can modify these auto-added links by adding a new link for the same social media platform using the same steps mentioned earlier.
What This Means for Businesses
This new feature allows local business owners to optimize their presence across Google’s ecosystem. In today’s digital landscape, consumers expect to find social media and website links alongside local search results. Therefore, small to medium-sized businesses now have the opportunity to provide a seamless experience similar to larger chains.
- Businesses can add the same social media link to multiple Business Profiles
- However, various links from the same platform cannot be added to a single profile
- This feature can be managed per business on Search or Maps, or via the API to manage multiple locations simultaneously
- It’s important to note that Google doesn’t provide performance metrics such as click rates for these social media links
